Rangacharya, born on 24 August 1928 in a village in Khammam district, now in Telangana, took part in the armed struggle against the erstwhile Nizam ruler.
Inspired by Marxism and socialism, Rangacharya wrote several books that highlighted the life and agony of the people at the grass roots level especially in the then Telangana region. His novels Moduga Poolu (Fire flowers), Chillara Devullu (The Lesser Deities) and Janapadam are well known for their inspiring role in influencing Telugu people against oppression by the rulers.
He received Central Sahitya Academy award for Chillara Devullu written in 1969. He translated all four Vedas into Telugu besides Ramayana and Mahabharata. He also wrote Jeevanayanam as his autobiography.
Srimadramayanam and Sri Mahabharatam are also his works in Telugu.
